Ibinahagi ni presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na inalok siya ng bansang South Korea upang tignan ang kasalukuyang kalagayan ng Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP)

Matatandaan na ang BNPP ay isa sa mga pinakamalaking proyekto ng administrasyon ng ama ni BBM na si Ferdinand Marcos Sr. ngunit hindi ito napakinabangan dahil sa iba’t ibang kritisismo na natanggap nito mula sa mga eksperto at sa mga kritiko.   Sa isang press conference na ginanap nitong Mayo 23 ay gusto ng South Korea na makita kung maari pa nga bang mapakinabangan ang BNPP na ilang dekada ng hindi nagagamit o napapakinabangan ng mga Pilipino.

 “May offer sila para tingnan ang Bataan Nuke Plant para makita ano pa ang kailangan gawin para matuloy. We’ll now study their recommendations & findings & we will see if we can still apply” ani Marcos.   Naniniwala si Marcos na kinakailangan ng Pilipinas ng iba’t ibang source ng enerhiya lalo na’t nagkakaroon na ng krisis sa bansa pagdating sa suplay ng kuryente.   “Isa sa pinakamalaking problema is the supply of power. If we are going to industrialize post pandemic… the power sector must be ready for that.” sabi pa ng darating na pangulo.

Kahit ang ilang kritiko ng mga Marcos kasama na ang ekonomista na si Winnie Monsod ay pabor na buhayin na muli ang BNPP.   “So it makes sense to rehabilitate BNPP. The cost to rehabilitate the plant is only a fraction of the amount to build a new one. You may not know it, Reader, but the cost of nuclear electricity is lower than the cost of coal-generated or oil-generated electricity.” ani Monsod.
